Friends of Meridian is dedicated to supporting sustainability and educational initiatives at Meridian World School.
Below are some of our key projects that have made a significant impact:
We partnered with the school to address playground erosion by adding protective groundcover and improving drainage solutions. This collaboration helps keep students safe while preserving a healthy outdoor space for learning and play.
We strengthened the school’s recycling and composting programs by placing recycling bins in every classroom and adding sets of recycling, compost, and trash bins in workrooms and shared outdoor spaces. This initiative encourages responsible waste management across the campus.
We commissioned educational signage installed throughout the playground area. These signs help students connect classroom lessons with sustainability practices, educating and inspiring them to think green.
We installed drip irrigation at the base of all plants in the butterfly garden. This system increases water efficiency and eliminates runoff, ensuring each plant receives the necessary water without waste.
Friends of Meridian sponsors the Meridian Chicken Coop, a living classroom where students learn about animal care, agriculture, and sustainability. This space connects everyday choices to the environment, fostering responsibility and respect for living creatures. By reusing lunchroom scraps to feed the hens, collecting fresh eggs, and composting their waste for the school garden, students see firsthand how small actions can make a big impact on our planet.
We’re looking to improve all of Meridian’s outdoor spaces by incorporating greener, more sustainable solutions to help protect our campus grounds, conserve resources, and create a healthier environment for our students and community.
